World Music Day is being celebrated all over the world including Pakistan. The day began in 1981 in the French capital, Paris, and within a few years, it was celebrated all over the world, including in Asian countries.


It is not possible to say when man made music a means of communication or expression of various moods, but the discovery of musical instruments from thousands of years old archeological sites, mostly made of stone, is proof that music The history of is as old as the human race.


The tradition of music in the subcontinent is very old. The art flourished long before the Mughal period. After Amir Khosrow, hundreds of classical singers from Tan Sen and Beju Bawara, KL Sehgal and Mukhtar Begum became the masters of the art until recently.

Music trends have also changed over time. Now the younger generation mostly likes to listen to pop music. The beginning of pop music in Pakistan is due to Nazia Hassan who gained immense popularity with her songs in the 80’s.


Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam, Umair Jaswal and Momina Mustahasan are popular names in pop music these days. 90s singers like Hadiqa Kayani and Ali Azmat are now embracing the same aspect of music.
