To highlight the importance of road safety, Careem in collaboration with the Traffic Police initiated a campaign of distributing free helmets to motorcyclists in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
According to Motorway Police, around 15000 people die annually in Pakistan and 50 percent of the accidents are of bike riders, which could have been avoided with the use of helmets.
Head injuries prove to be a major cause of fatalities and often pose a serious threat to those who ride on the pillion seat, increasing the chances of injuries. According to research by the World Health Organization, lack or inappropriate use of helmets has shown to increase the risk of casualties and physical impairment resulting from road crashes involving motorized two-wheelers. Non-helmeted motorcyclists are three times more likely to sustain head injuries in a crash compared to those wearing helmets.
According to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance of 1965, our law clearly states diligent instructions towards wearing a helmet for both the motorcyclist and the one riding the pillion seat. Despite this, a very non-serious attitude is observed on the roads pertaining to the safety of riders.
The initiative of Careem Pakistan in partnership with the authorities is to bring about awareness amongst motorcyclists to ensure that safety is highly instrumental while riding.
Junaid Iqbal, Managing Director, Careem Pakistan commented:
We take pride in partnering with the government to highlight that at all costs, “Safety comes First”. We must ensure it by taking all proper steps including wearing helmets while riding on the roads. Since, lives are precious, we must not lose them due to negligence.
Muhammad Amir Zulfiqar Khan, Inspector General of Police in Islamabad said:
We are thankful to Careem Pakistan for realizing the importance of safety and partnering with us in raising awareness about the importance of wearing helmets while riding.
Careem Takes Safety Seriously!
Careem has always put the safety of its customers first, which is the main reason behind a number of initiatives the company has launched in recent times.
Let’s take a look at these initiatives one by one:
Call Masking
Not everyone wants their phone number to be public. To address this issue, Careem started the Call Masking initiative. This enabled not only the customers but also the captains to hide their personal numbers.
Track My Ride
To make the customers feel more secure, Careem introduced the option of sending their live location to their friends and family. This eliminated a lot of factors which previously held some people back from availing the car-hailing service.
In-Ride Insurance
Careem stands with its valued customers and captain. How, you might ask? Well, Careem offers insurance to its customers and captains while they are availing the service. In case anything bad happens, Careem has you covered!
24/7 In-Ride Helpline
Last but not the least, the customers and the captains have Careem’s customer support available all the time. Irrespective of whether its day or night, they can contact Careem’s helpline which is open 24/7.
